Our story started 34 years ago, in a time when the laughter of kids was
overshadowed by the roaring sound of the war. Ms. Gisele Hachem Zard and
her husband, Mr. Antoine Zard tried to create a world of innocent
childhood dances, stories, and poems in which everyone could escape and
forget the grim world outside. The “theater” was a room in a
building, the “actors” were the children of the neighborhood, the
“audience” were their parents. Each moment was filled with emotions,
with tears of joy, with hope and gratitude. The little ones were
discovering a new realm, a place without threats, where they felt safe.
It started as a game, as a distraction from the daily struggles, but the
sheer excitement and interest it stirred determined Gisele to continue,
turning what had started as a small gathering of friends into the
THEATER we see today.
Things followed their normal path, and in 1990 Gisele produced the first
professional play, with professional actors “Haraki Baraki” (Le
Bonheur de Travailler) with a resounding success. Since then, every year
Gisele delights us with a new production.
